Mozambique-Malawi Power Interconnection
Their Excellencies Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, President of The Republic of Mozambique, And Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi, were this morning at Phombeya in Balaka District to launch the Mozambique-Malawi Power Interconnection Project. The project will involve the construction of a 218-kilometre 400kV High Voltage Alternating Current transmission line from Matambo in Tete Province in Central Mozambique, past the Malawian border in Mwanza and all the way to Phombeya, Balaka, from which it will connect to other parts of the country.

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has had bilateral talks with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. They discussed a wide range of issues, including the special relationship between their two countries and the desire to see their partnership grow in such areas as climate change, girls’ education, and trade. The Prime Minister also expressed both his joy at seeing the President and his desire to cement a Malawi-UK partnership to leverage green technologies in Malawi. The two leaders have agreed to discuss this further when they meet again at COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland in November.

African First Ladies
Her Excellency Madam Monica Chakwera the First Lady of Republic of Malawi is today February 18, 2021 virtually attending the 25th Ordinary General Assembly of the Organisation of African First Ladies in Development (OAFLAD)
The meeting which is being chaired by Madam Sassou N’Guesso First Lady of The Republic of the Congo and President of OAFLAD with a call for the first ladies to do more in the trying times of Covid.
The meeting is being convened under the theme “Showing resilience in face of Covid 19 by building on past gains and learning from challenges of the present”
