Their Excellencies Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, President of The Republic of Mozambique, And Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi, were this morning at Phombeya in Balaka District to launch the Mozambique-Malawi Power Interconnection Project. The project will involve the construction of a 218-kilometre 400kV High Voltage Alternating Current transmission line from Matambo in Tete Province in Central Mozambique, past the Malawian border in Mwanza and all the way to Phombeya, Balaka, from which it will connect to other parts of the country.Read More
President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has had bilateral talks with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. They discussed a wide range of issues, including the special relationship between their two countries and the desire to see their partnership grow in such areas as climate change, girls’ education, and trade. The Prime Minister also expressed both his joy at seeing the President and his desire to cement a Malawi-UK partnership to leverage green technologies in Malawi. The two leaders have agreed to discuss this further when they meet again at COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland in November.Read More
